The Calm Before The Storm - Coralville Monday January 31, 2011

The Calm Before The Storm. This is what Coralville looked like today. Looks like we're heading for what is expected to be the worst storm of the season with 8 to 12 inches of snow fall expected by Wednesday. Eternal optimist as I am I'm hoping they're wrong. It's not like it would be the the first time - That the weather service got it wrong that is... And they still get a pay check at the end of the month. Have you ever wondered about that? Who else do you know that gets paid for getting it wrong?

Of course I've probably jinxed it now. 8 to 12 inches for us for sure now... Hope you got those groceries in today and stocked up on batteries in case the power goes out!

We are expecting a milder pattern here in Ohio in the next 24 hours.  Places are closing down here now in anticipation for tomorrow

Hi Denise~  Hey, they have a 50 percent chance of being right!  We are supposedly going to get some rain....hopefully they are right and that is all we get!

I am so not amused Stacey-Ann. I am totally done with winter this year! Keeping my fingers firmly crossed that they have got it wrong this time. Especially since my son's car broke down on him in Mount Pleasant at the weekend and we need to drive out there tomorrow to pick it up from the shop. It's only a 40 minute drive, but it will be A LOT longer if the storm comes in as predicted.

I am with you Denise. I am so done with winter. Each year they seem to get longer and more treacherous.

Denise - I lived in the Mid-West in the past, and I remember snow storms can be very ennoying. I hope everything work well with you.

I am totally loving this, I went and bought a Flip Video yesterday just so I could record it. We are somewhere between 17 and 24 inches, depends where you look and that howling wind has died down a little.

Hi Corinne ~ Begrudgingly I will admit that it looks kind of cool, but loving it?? I think not....:-)

I knew I'd jinxed it by talking about how they sometimes often get it wrong. We got about 12 inches overnight and have a total standstill around here this morning. Fun times!

Thanks for all the comments and well wishes. Martha, you're right, winter seems to get more treacherous year for year. Whatever happened to that global warming thing?
